Speaking of, after a year of very hard work by Brian Fontaine, our manager of fun, The Colony is proud to present its first compilation CD called The New Tulsa Sounds.  This is a collaboration between established and emerging Tulsa artists with an amalgamation of styles and sounds with the common threads being quality musicianship, Tulsa and The Colony. Check out some of the songs at www.thenewtulsasound.com. The CDs are sold at The Colony, McNellie's, Dwelling Spaces and the website.  Or call the office at (918) 582-2035 and we'll mail you one.

Caddy on the Patty

For years Travis Taylor, our general manager at McNellie's, drove a 1994 Ford Explorer.  Unfortunately, during the winter of 2009, the transmission in this fine vehicle failed.

The cost of a new transmission was significantly more than the value of the Explorer, so Travis decided he could get along without a car.  For several months he pretended that Tulsa was a major metropolitan city with a well developed network of public transportation.  More often than not, however, he ended up walking or biking to work because - shocker - the #105 bus was late ... again.

As a businessman, I commended Travis on his frugality, but as a business owner, I was concerned that he wouldn't be able to make it to the Pub at a moment's notice if something unexpected happened, like Adam Richman from Man vs. Food showing up for a photo shoot.

Therefore, Jim (the oft-mentioned, slightly muffin-topped, balding red headed guy that manages all the non-fun stuff) and I set off down 11th Street with $1,500 in cash to find Travis a car.  We test drove some amazing stuff:

1. A Crown Victoria police interceptor from Washita County with more than 250,000 miles and a spot light.
2. A Volvo that literally couldn't be shut-off without pulling a wire that was underneath the hood. (the salesman tried to downplay this as a small inconvenience)
3. A 1988 Land Cruiser that couldn't go faster than 20 mph until it had been driven for approximately one mile (this made for an exciting test drive)
4. A van with great shag carpet, bad brakes, and an overwhelming smell of gas

Just when we thought we'd never find a suitable car we saw a white 1991 Cadillac DeVille Brougham de Elegance at the Marie Route 66 Auto Mall. Thankfully, the 284,000 miles on the odometer, the blue velour interior and the pushpins holding up the headliner put this marvel of American engineering squarely into our price range.

After we got the car and promptly named her Princess, which was a tribute to the Loveboat's Princess of Seas, we drove to Travis' house for the unveiling.

Travis enthusiastically faked enthusiasm about his new car and drove Princess until she finally died nine months later.

Princess was relegated to the parking lot - a sad fate for such a wonderful gift.  So, not being one to waste a Cadillac, we re-purposed the car and found her a new home on the Dilly Deli patio.  Now, you and your friends can dine in the same luxurious surroundings that Travis traveled in.  The next time you see Travis, tell him how much better Princess is than his current Swedish ride.

Click here to see how we got the Cadillac on the Dilly Deli Patio.

With Hot Summer Days, Comes Great Summer Nights

Update on Date with Dede

Dede went out on her date with Dan Hunt.  To make sure their initial meeting was as uncomfortable as possible, I asked Muriel to use our new HD Flip camera (which I asked her not to buy) to record the initial meeting.  Here's the video. Enjoy.

Dede and Dan went on to have a 2 hour conversation on the Dilly Deli patio, developed a good friendship, and might go out on a second date. Job done! Now, on to the next ...

McNellie's Dating Service Round 2 - Date with Jessica

You may reach me at any time to go over the applicants.

Thank you and have a great day,
Sue Cecil

This time, we are going to go through an elimination process, think Elimidate. From the pool of participants, Mrs. Cecil and I will be picking 3 men to take Jessica out on a date.  Throughout the date, Jessica will start eliminating them one at a time and hopefully will be able to find love.
